The Kingdom of Kush, also known as the Kushite Empire, was an ancient kingdom located in Nubia, which is in present-day northern Sudan and southern Egypt. The origins of Kush are deeply rooted in the region's early history, with the city-state of Kerma emerging as a dominant political force between 2450 and 1450 BCE1.Kush developed independently but was heavily influenced by ancient Egypt, especially during the New Kingdom period (1550–1070 BCE) when much of Nubia came under Egyptian rule. After the decline of the New Kingdom, the Kushites reestablished their kingdom in Napata (modern-day Karima, Sudan) and later moved their capital to Meroe. The connection to Babylon comes from the biblical figure Cush, who is considered an ancestor of Nimrod, the founder and king of Babylon. However, the historical Kingdom of Kush and the biblical Cush are distinct entities.
