Major Charity Adams Earley was a trailblazer who shattered racial and gender barriers during World War II. As the commander of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, she led the only all-Black, all-female unit sent overseas.Facing a staggering backlog of over 17 million pieces of mail in freezing, rat-infested warehouses, Earley’s unit implemented a relentless 24/7 sorting system. Their motto, "No Mail, Low Morale," underscored the vital link between soldiers and their families. Under her disciplined leadership, the "Six Triple Eight" cleared a six-month backlog in just three months.Earley rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, becoming the highest-ranking Black woman in the U.S. Army by the war's end. Her legacy remains a testament to efficiency, resilience, and the fight for equality in the face of systemic discrimination.#BlackHistoryMonth
