The earliest documented reference to Mandach dates back to 1218, derived from the late Latin “Manduccacum,” meaning “land belonging to Manduccus,” suggesting that Manduccus was the original owner of the land where the village now stands…Mandach’s coat of arms displays a black Moor’s head with red lips and white neck adornment on a white and red divided background…This design originates from the medieval noble family of Mandach…In medieval times, the prominent noble family associated with Mandach was the Lords of Wessenberg…They owned significant land in the area, including a castle located on Wessenberg hill, near the border with Hottwil…Additionally, historical records from 1218 mention a knight named “Ritter von Mandach,” who served as a bailiff for the Abbey of Säckingen, indicating the presence of another noble lineage bearing the Mandach name…The coat of arms of Flumenthal, a municipality in the canton of Solothurn, Switzerland, features a Moor’s head with a white headband and collar, and red lips, all set against a gold (yellow) background…While the exact date of the emblem’s initial adoption is not definitively documented, it has been in use since at least 1520…
