Taharqua, one of the most prominent pharaohs of ancient Egypt’s 25th Dynasty (also known as the Kushite Dynasty), reigned from 690 BCE to 664 BCE. Born in the Kingdom of Kush (modern-day Sudan), he rose to power during a period of Nubian dominance over Egypt, where he played a vital role in consolidating Kushite control while promoting the cultural and religious integration of the two regions. Taharqua is best known for his military campaigns against the Assyrian Empire, including his defense of Egypt against the Assyrian king Esarhaddon.
